The Grind Includes Friday!
One of my pet peeves is when people talk about Friday. “One step closer to Friday”, “It’s hump day, half way to Friday”, “All down hill from here, it’s almost Friday”… now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a little R&R, but if every week you are constantly looking forward to Friday because your life is so miserable with what you are doing Monday thru Friday, you need a serious change in your current job or a new perspective on the opportunity right in front of you.
I don’t let up on a Friday because tomorrow is Saturday. How I finish my workweek is just as important as how I started it. It sets a standard for how I live my life. “How you do anything, is how you do everything.” This has never been so true as those who want to shortcut Friday. If you work half as hard on Friday or check out early, it is a tale tell sign about how you do other things in life as well. I believe everyday is an opportunity to be better than yesterday. If my mentality is constantly looking forward to “my Friday” then I am not growing, and if I am not growing I am dying or at minimum staying stagnate.
So I encourage those of you who look forward to Friday, to view it with a new set of eyes. Look at it as a way to finish your week strong, setting the tone for your next week. This type of work ethic, discipline and positive outlook, will do two things at minimum: One, it will make you feel better about what you have accomplished during the current week and two, it start to set a new standard for how you do other things in your life.
Life is to be lived everyday, not just for Friday’s.
